Facundo Roco was formerly Regional Communications Manager for the East Asia Pacific organization of Shell Exploration International with responsibility for public affairs for all Shell exploration projects in all the countries between China and New Zealand.

 

He was then also concurrently Deputy Managing Director of Shell Exploration Philippines, Joint Venture Operators of the landmark Malampaya Natural Gas to Power Project, the first and only commercial natural gas development in the Philippines todate.  He was responsible for the successful management of public affairs for the project that earned the Malampaya Project one of only ten global awards given by the United Nations Environment Program jointly with the International Chamber of Commerce during the Johannesburg Summit in 2002 for Sustainable Development Partnerships.

 

He retired from Shell in 2008 after a career spanning 35 years.  He is currently Chairman of the Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc., a non-profit NGO dedicated to preserving what is left of the unique flora and fauna of Mindoro Island, one of the ten most bio-diverse places in the world.

 

He also serves as Trustee of the El Nido Foundation Inc., another NGO dedicated to preserving the marine biodiversity of Bacuit Bay in northern Palawan Island.

 

Previously, he was Executive Director and Trustee of Pilipinas Shell Foundation, another NGO dedicated to helping uplift the lives of the underprivileged members of Philippine society.  

 

Before he joined Shell, Roco was a journalist working for the old pre-martial law Manila Times.  He is the author of the book, “Forgotten: 1300 years of family history”, a biography of the Roco family.
